Why do we have underarm hair?

Why do we have hair under our arms? Well, there are a couple of thoughts on this from experts. First, they believe it has to do with our sex appeal to the opposite sex. They believe that the pheromones, which release a sexual attraction scent, generated there attract the opposite sex to entice reproduction. Second, some think that it is or was used to protect the underarm during vigorous manual labor. With the advent of newer technology such as the shirt, the experts feel that these reasons are going away.

There are as many reasons to get your armpit hair removed as there are people but there are also many myths as to what happens if you remove it. A lot of those myths are just that… myths! For instance, people think that if you remove the armpit hair, it will grow back thicker and darker than it was before. Due to how your hair grows back and some of the issues one might have some people believe this myth.

You see… when you hair starts to grow back you can fill the stubs and might get some ingrown hairs. These can look darker and thicker but really aren’t. It’s just the re-grow process.

Another reason some are worried about getting their armpit hair removed is that it’s only related to very sexually adventurous individuals. This is yet just another myth. There are various religions and cultures that encourage the removal as it is a sign of cleanliness.

There are a number of reasons why one would remove their underarm hair. Some people with sweat gland problems will have it removed so their antiperspirants and/or deodorants can be more effective. Athletes will do this to help improve performance by reducing any friction the hair many cause. Remember, a very small fraction of a second can be the difference between a winner and looser!

You can always shave but then you run the risk of getting “razor bumps”, not a good thing as they can hurt and get infected. Waxing or sugaring is just painful and it has to be done continually which can just be a pain in the rear!
