Unwanted Leg Hair? Go to Chicago or Another City to get Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted Leg Hair? Go to Chicago or Another City to get Laser Hair Removal
by Joyce Pendelthumb

Most women will spend a large amount of time each week in an age-old custom. Removing the hair from their legs is a part of everyday life for many women. Ladies will try just about anything to have smooth hair free legs, from waxes and depilatory creams to tweezing.

Did you ever stop to think there might be a better way to get the smooth legs that every woman strives for? Would you be surprised to find there is a procedure that will remove the hair from your legs for weeks on end and possibly permanently? The good news today is there is such a process and it is called laser hair removal.

Dermatologists have been performing laser hair removal procedures for quite some time. The first tests were completed around 1970 and by 1990, the procedure was introduced for commercial use. It was not long before laser hair removal was the most common procedure for hair removal.

What to Know

Laser hair removal procedures have come a long way and is a good solution for most people. However, there are a few things you should know before searching for a practitioner.

Over the years, this process has continually been perfected; however, the best outcome will be for those with light skin and dark coarse hair to remove. The reason for this is in the manner in which the laser works. An intense light passes through the outer layers of skin with no damage, until it reaches the melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives hair its dark appearance. Laser removal is activated when the light hits the melanin with heat, damaging the hair follicle and increasing the time it takes the hair to grow.

The first thing to do is check around for someone who has verifiable experience in laser procedures. Ideally, this will be a board certified physician with education regarding the latest laser treatments. It is not unusual for a nurse or assistant to do a treatment provided the trained professional remains with you through the treatment.

As with any type of procedure, there are risks associated with laser treatments. You may find that the hair is only partially removed or re-growth occurs at the same rate. You could also experience a change in skin tone around the area, sometimes darker, sometimes lighters. Rarely this skin lightening will be a long term or permanent occurrence.

Expectations

The first thing that should occur is a meeting between you and the dermatologist to assess your needs and wants. They should be very frank with you about what you can expect and explain that laser hair removal is not a onetime deal. If you are looking for permanent hair reduction, you can expect many treatments over the course of a year to accomplish this goal.

When you compare laser hair removal for the legs to the many other temporary fixes such as shaving, waxing and depilatory creams it is easy to see which comes out on top. Even when the hair removal is not permanent, you can reasonably expect weeks, months and even years of hair free living. What could possibly be better than that?

Facial Hair Removal Solution

By Carlos Geventa

Facial hair for a woman is most definitely an unwanted occurrence. The underlying causes of some facial hair in women can be an undiagnosed medical problem such as an excessive production of certain hormones like dihydrotestosterone, a precursor to testosterone. Other common causes are obesity, insulin resistance or a family trait. Whatever the cause one thing is certain most women want a way to remove it and keep it gone for as long as possible.

Tweezing
The first line of defense for many women is a pair of tweezers. This small device makes it possible to pluck the offending hair out by the root and thereby increasing the time, it takes to grow back. While tweezing may be an option for a few errant hairs, what about times when the hair growth has increased? You could spend all day trying to pluck unwanted facial hair, and have red irritated skin in the process.

Chemical
There are several different chemicals on the market today for hair removal.

The problem is few of them are for the face and the ones that are the most effective are only available with a prescription. Beyond those two issues are skin irritation due to allergic reaction, it is hard to determine which is worse facial hair or the red bumps left behind by some chemicals.

Shaving
In some instances, women decide to shave to remove unwanted facial hair. This quick, easy fix does not require doctor’s visits or plucking. However shaving is just a temporary fix, many times there will be a small amount of stubble left behind and you will have to repeat the process several times a week if not every day. Shaving is a quick fix but definitely not a long-term answer to unwanted facial hair in women.

Laser Treatment
Laser hair removal is a process that was tested experimentally for nearly 20 years before becoming available in the early 90s. Since that time, it has become a widely accepted practice in the dermatology field. In fact, there have been many studies printed in dermatology literature; one of the first was from Massachusetts General Hospital.

The primary idea behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis or SPTL. Laser light passes through the skin and targets the melanin, which is the dark pigment in hair. When the laser contacts the melanin, it immediately destroys the hair follicle.

Many people think that laser hair treatment provides an instant permanent hair removal. While laser hair treatments will eventually provide hair free situation it is not instant. You will need to have several treatments over an extended period in order to become totally hair free.

Laser hair removal is an excellent way to battle unsightly hair on the chin, upper lip and ear lobe. The only place lasers cannot be used is in the nostrils, ears or eyes; however, it is applicable for most other areas of the face. This treatment is also usable for legs, armpits and various other locations where unwanted hair is present.

When compared to the other treatment methods available laser hair removal is one of the best. Initial laser treatments can leave you hair free for weeks, months and even years. Repetitive treatments can eventually result in complete and permanent removal of the unwanted hair.

How to Find a Great Laser Hair Removal Spa in Chicago

I know that when i had my first laser hair removal treatment i was in Chicago but you can be anywhere to heed this advice. Now, i use this myself if i go to a different spa. Plus i always tell my friends so they can find a spa that’s just right for them!

1. When i first go into a medspa, i look around and see how clean the front areas are and see how it’s laid out. I sort of just let their atmospher settle over me to see if i feel comfortable. Then, i walk up and speak to anyone at the reception desk. I ask them if they have had treatment here themselves. If they’ve had the treatments they’ll know what it feels like plus they can explain how or if the treatment was effective for them.

2. I find out how long the medspa has been in business and if they have other locations. If they do, i try to find out how many and where they are located. Sort of gives me a warm fuzzy about their business and if it’s a one shot type thing.

3. I always ask if they do some type of complimentary test. I think this is important as you will get an idea of how the treatment will feel and if it’s going to be effective. Plus, you’ll see if there are any kind of side effects you might encounter.

4. While talking i try to find out how many laser hair removal procedures they perform each day. This basically boils down to how much experience they have. The more treatments the more experience. And, that’s one thing you always want… someone with experience… the more they do, the they are exposed to different skin types and it can make a difference. You see… most of the equpiment works the same or at least in principle but the difference will come with your technician or doctor.

Please remember, you are there for a very personal experience so ask all the questions you want until you feel comfortable. You can’t ask too many questions when it comes to getting personal treatment like laser hair removal in Chicago or another city.

Why do we have underarm hair?

Why do we have hair under our arms? Well, there are a couple of thoughts on this from experts. First, they believe it has to do with our sex appeal to the opposite sex. They believe that the pheromones, which release a sexual attraction scent, generated there attract the opposite sex to entice reproduction. Second, some think that it is or was used to protect the underarm during vigorous manual labor. With the advent of newer technology such as the shirt, the experts feel that these reasons are going away.

There are as many reasons to get your armpit hair removed as there are people but there are also many myths as to what happens if you remove it. A lot of those myths are just that… myths! For instance, people think that if you remove the armpit hair, it will grow back thicker and darker than it was before. Due to how your hair grows back and some of the issues one might have some people believe this myth.

Hair Free Under Your Arms!

Hair Free Under Your Arms!

You see… when you hair starts to grow back you can fill the stubs and might get some ingrown hairs. These can look darker and thicker but really aren’t. It’s just the re-grow process.

Another reason some are worried about getting their armpit hair removed is that it’s only related to very sexually adventurous individuals. This is yet just another myth. There are various religions and cultures that encourage the removal as it is a sign of cleanliness.

There are a number of reasons why one would remove their underarm hair. Some people with sweat gland problems will have it removed so their antiperspirants and/or deodorants can be more effective. Athletes will do this to help improve performance by reducing any friction the hair many cause. Remember, a very small fraction of a second can be the difference between a winner and looser!

You can always shave but then you run the risk of getting “razor bumps”, not a good thing as they can hurt and get infected. Waxing or sugaring is just painful and it has to be done continually which can just be a pain in the rear!

An increasing number of men and women are opting for laser hair removal in Chicago and other cities to have their hair removed. There is very little pain involved if any and can be done in a very short session.

Laser Hair Removal… Effective or Not? That is the Question…

I think effectiveness is actually relative… it depends on what your concept of effective is. If you hate shaving your legs, underarms, upper lip, chin and maybe sideburns, then yes laser hair can be very effective. It also depend on how much pain you can actually tolerate! Do you enjoy those cuts and nicks

each day during your shaving routine? How long does it take for the bleeding to stop and have you ruined that hundred dollar blouse because you cut your underarm and didn’t have enough time for it to quit bleeding? If any of those are your concerns then yes, laser hair removal is very effective. Why? because you don’t have to shave anymore… no shaving… no cuts or nicks! No more ruined shirts or pants from bleeding. One great reason to get laser hair removal is that you can get almost every part of your body treated! Really, the only area you can’t and don’t want to get treated is your eyes. As more and more women see the benefit of laser hair removal it’s becoming more acceptable by men as well!

Not only are a lot more men opting for laser hair removal but so are more athletes. Now, that may sound strange but for swimmers, biker and runners the less friction the better! It may only be a fraction of a second but just ask that swimmer who came in second to Micheal Phelps… i bet he wished he had just a couple more fractions of a second and he’d have won. Now, i don’t know if he is or was hairless but you get my point. Very competitive people can actually gaing the little extra with laser hair removal!

One thing you should do is get a free consultation and discuss all of your questions with a medical spa physician and/or technician. They, being certified and trained, will have all the answers to your questions. You’ll also want to know your skin type… please see my previous post!

Thanks for coming back… I’ll post more as i get the time.. take care
